The track belt is a key component of the crawler-type shot blasting machine. After prolonged use, it may wear out, crack, or lose its elasticity. Regular replacement is required to ensure proper operation. Detailed instructions and safety precautions for replacing the track belt are provided below:
I. Preparation
1. Safety Precautions
Disconnect the power supply and hang a "Do Not Operate" warning sign to ensure the equipment is completely shut down.
Wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as a hard hat, protective gloves, and safety goggles.
Clear the work area, remove debris, and ensure there is sufficient working space.
2. Tool Preparation
Specialized tools: wrench, screwdriver, hydraulic jack (or specialized lifting device), crowbar, and torque wrench.
Auxiliary materials: lubricant, cleaning cloth, and a new track belt (must match the original model).
Lifting equipment (if handling heavy track belts).
3. Equipment Inspection
Inspect the shot blasting chamber for residual shot. Clean it out to prevent operational interference.
Ensure that components such as the drive wheel, idler wheel, and support rollers are in good condition and free from significant wear or deformation.
2. Removing the Old Track
1. Loosening Track Tension
Locate the track tensioner (usually situated near the drive wheel) and loosen the tensioning bolts or the hydraulic cylinder to release the track tension.
If a hydraulic tensioning system is used, first shut down the hydraulic system and release the pressure. 2. Removing Fasteners
Remove any protective covers or guards (if present) from both sides of the track to expose the track connection point.
Use a wrench or screwdriver to remove the bolts or pins securing the track joints and disconnect the track links.
If the track is a continuous loop, use a crowbar or a specialized tool to gradually pry the track off the drive wheel. 3. Removing the Old Track
Use a jack or lifting device to slowly raise the center section of the track, clearing it from the drive and idler wheels.
If the track is heavy, use a lifting device to prevent injury.
Completely remove the old track from the equipment and place it in a designated area. III. Installing the New Track
1. Cleaning and Inspection
Clean dirt and rust from the drive wheel, idler wheel, and support roller to ensure smooth contact surfaces.
Inspect the new track to ensure it is compatible with the equipment and free of defects (such as cracks or deformation).
2. Installing the New Track
Slowly lift the new track over the equipment and align it with the drive and idler wheels.
Slowly lower the track until it engages with the teeth/grooves of the drive and idler wheels.
3. Connecting the Track Chain
Align the chain links according to the track design and insert the locking pins or bolts. Tighten them to the specified torque using a wrench.
For open-type tracks, ensure the joints are properly aligned and not misaligned or skewed. 4. Track tension adjustment
Use the tensioning device to slowly increase the track tension to the value specified in the operation manual.
Use a torque wrench to check the tightening torque of the tensioning bolts. IV. Commissioning and Acceptance
1. No-load test run
Connect the power supply and run the equipment at idle (5–10 minutes).
Observe the smoothness of the track operation and check for any abnormal noise or vibration.
Check for track misalignment. If misalignment occurs, adjust the position of the drive or idler wheels.
2. Load test
Add a small amount of granules and conduct a brief load test to ensure the track can withstand normal operating loads.
Check the friction between the track and the granules to ensure there is no excessive wear or granule jamming. 3. Final inspection
Tighten all bolts and connections and apply anti-corrosion lubricant.
Clear away tools and debris from around the equipment and install safety guards.
Fill out the replacement log, noting the replacement date, track model, and operator details.
V. Safety precautions
1. Live work strictly prohibited: Always disconnect the power supply during replacement to avoid the risk of electric shock.
2. Even load distribution: When using a jack or lifting equipment, ensure the load is evenly distributed across the track to prevent deformation. 3. Track tension control: Excessive track tension can easily lead to breakage, while insufficient tension can cause the track to derail. Adjustments must be performed strictly in accordance with the manual.
4. Regular maintenance: It is recommended to check track wear every 3–6 months and plan replacement cycles.
