The need for repair or replacement of the shot blasting unit can be assessed based on the following indicators:
Blade wear
If blade wear exceeds 3 mm on one side or cracks appear, the blades must be replaced in sets (typically, all blades must be replaced to ensure proper balancing). It is recommended to measure the thickness using a caliper every 8 hours. Using laser thickness gauges in automotive parts manufacturing plants can extend blade service life by 30%.
Incorrect tilt angle
If the blade tilt angle deviates from the standard range (30–60°), the position of the control cage opening must be adjusted, or the worn control cage assembly must be replaced.
Bearing condition
If metal dust appears or the lubricant turns black in bearings using high-temperature lithium grease, the unit must be stopped immediately for inspection; the lubricant should be changed every 2,000 hours.
Vibration and noise
If noticeable vibration occurs (vibration intensity exceeding 11.2 mm/s) or abnormal noise arises during operation, the blade mountings and the wear on the shot wheel must be checked.
Maintenance schedule
It is recommended to clear foreign objects from the shot blasting unit every shift and to check blade thickness and control cage opening wear monthly (the shot wheel must be replaced if wear exceeds 10–12 mm).
